Barefoot luxury!
Between the 1190 coral islands that make up the tropical Maldives you will find the small island of Lankanfushi. Transformed into a luxury resort with 45 Villa Suites and the unique Crusoe Residences floating around the island in the lagoon. The latter are accessible only by boat. Serene, intimate and understated; Gili Lankanfushi is the epitome of barefoot luxury.
It stole my heart immediately upon arrival. After a short boat ride from MalĂ©, I truly feel like I’m in paradise. After a warm welcome by my own butler, Mr. Friday, I am taken to the villa. The Villa Suite is very spacious. I can hardly believe my eyes; an immense beautiful view over the Indian Ocean, a private sun terrace, a water shower and “water garden”. In the bathroom the floor is partly made of glass and the bath is suspended over the crystal clear lagoon with countless brightly colored tropical fish. In my four-poster bed, I wake up in the morning to a 180-degree sea view….
On Gili Lankanfushi you stay in a casual atmosphere but at the same time the service on this tiny atoll is of the highest level. The restaurants are a succession of culinary highlights. A breakfast accompanied by a glass of champagne. Fresh fish and seafood on the barbecue for lunch. Twice a week, a perfect dinner buffet is on the menu. Dining with your feet in the warm sand. One time exclusively French Haute Cuisine, the other time a buffet with exclusive Asian dishes. In the Underground Chocolate Cave you can choose from gourmet chocolates and the sommelier has some unique wines waiting for you in his wine cellar.
The Meera Spa has a glass floor and a pool overlooking the ocean. The Spa offers traditional Ayurvedic treatments, yoga and pilates programs. The Ocean Paradise Dive Centre knows the short route to world-famous dive spots like Manta Point, among others. Ten minutes of sailing and then, with a bottle on your back, you’ll witness this wonder of the world…a kilometer long gathering point of manta rays.
On Gili Lankanfushi, much attention is paid to the environment. The utmost care has been taken in developing the island with respect to ecological balance. Gili Lankanfushi may also call itself the best hotel in the world according to Tripadvisor in 2015. A very awarded title!
